I’m now offering 1-to-1 mentoring sessions officially, after a few people asked me about helping them out on an ongoing basis and it seems to be going well. Sessions are generally an hour over Zoom or Discord. People are finding that having a regular monthly session, with extra sessions in-between as needed, works for them, but I’m flexible at the moment.
There’s so much information out there about music production – it’s great. The issue with all that, though, is separating the useful information from the unnecessary stuff (not to mention some total BS!) and finding what YOU need to know. You don’t know what you don’t know, right? So how can you search for that? Maybe the issue isn’t what you think it is…. The other side to it is that this subject is so huge and detailed – it’s easy to get lost and waste a load of time fighting things instead of being able to get on and make music.
Mentoring gives you that 1-to-1 attention, focused on YOUR music, YOUR current challenges, and what YOU need to know. There’s really no substitute for immediate feedback on the actual music you’re working on right now – anything else is a generalisation which could work, or it could cause more harm than good!
How it works
We’ll arrange a time/date for an online meeting where you can bring anything you want to go through. You can send me anything relevant, like links, audio files, full projects, etc. at any time outside of the meeting too. We’ll talk through the specific issues or questions you have during the session – I can do audio and screen sharing to demonstrate things, and you can do the same. In-between sessions, it’s ok to email me with follow-up questions if they come up.
What I can cover
- General music production
- Mixing
- Mastering
- Recording/running recording sessions
- Composing/arranging/music theory
- Working with artists
What it’s not
This isn’t a training course. I don’t have a list of things I’m going to teach you. It all comes from you – you present something you want help with, I work through it with you.
Cost
I’m doing an introductory price of £40 per hour session to start with, with limited places available, which will go up if this proves popular. If you get in at the start I’ll keep you on that price going forward.
Contact me if this sounds useful for you or if you have any other ideas about how I could help.
